Shuart Van Orden Barn

Conversion of a 1800s, dirt-floored horse barn with hayloft into a modern, 1800sf auxiliary building to the historic 1700s stone home. The original structure and character was maintained while installing modern plumbing and heating & cooling systems, high-efficiency insulation and large Marvin® Integrity windows to capture the pastoral landscape.

Horse stalls on the lower level were transformed into a work-from-home studio with kitchenette, complete with panoramic windows facing a meadow, and a full bathroom with an indoor shower designed with direct access to an outdoor shower, overlooking fields. Found in the old tack room, now guest suite, an ancient worktable was revived, clad in zinc, and now serves as an enormous desk. The old hayloft’s transformation to a professional home movie theater with 14-foot retractable automatic screen, state-of-the-art audio-visual system and concession stand is a cinephile’s dream.
There’s even room for a home gym!
